A/Prof Mercado has been a Periodontist for more than 23 years with a private practice in Penrith. Tino holds an A/Prof position at the Periodontal Post-Graduate Department at the University of Queensland , University of Sydney and The University of Otago. His PhD topic and latest publications in peer-reviewed high impact journals are on predictable management of peri-implantitis and management of periodontal recession on teeth and implants using autologous and alternative tissues.
He is the president for the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists (ANZAP) for 2024-2025 and a Periodontal examiner at the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS). He is twice recipient of the prestigious National and Health Medical Research Council Scholarship (1998 for MDSc and 2011 for PhD). Tino is the president of the Filipino Australian Dental Association (FADA).
His work on the role of enamel matrix derivative on the long-term stability of connective tissue graft on most advanced gingival recession won Best Clinical Research at the last Biannual Meeting of the Australian Society of Periodontology in 2018. His last clinical research on maxillary anterior ridge preservation won Best Clinical Research at the last 2020 Virtual Osteology World Symposium.
Dr. Judd Sher graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from James Cook University in Cairns, with subsequent Honours. At completion of his undergraduate training, he was awarded the Australian Society of Periodontology Medallion, leading him to complete his postgraduate Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Periodontics) at the University of Sydney.
Beyond his clinical expertise, patients admire Dr Sher’s caring nature and gentle approach, creating a welcoming and reassuring atmosphere. His commitment to the field of Periodontics extends to impactful research contributions and securing numerous research grants. Dr Sher has also shared his knowledge by mentoring aspiring dental professionals at James Cook University, the University of Adelaide, and the University of Sydney.
Currently, Dr. Sher is working full time in specialist private practice. His practice includes all aspects of periodontics and implant dentistry, with a special interest in periodontal regeneration, recession coverage, and the management of peri-implantitis. He remains an active member of important organisations such as the Australian Dental Association, Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists, Australian Society of Periodontology, and he is the Director for Western Sydney and Greater Blue Mountains International Team of Implantology (ITI) Study Club.
Oral Health Therapist
Victoria Dos Santos has spent ten years dedicated to oral health, driven by her passion for helping others achieve optimal oral and general wellness. She earned her undergraduate degree in Oral Health Therapy From Charles Sturt University and has continued to expand her expertise through hands-on clinical experience and further postgraduate studies through The University of Melbourne.
Victoria approaches each patient with compassion and dedication, tailoring her care to individual needs. She believes in empowering her patients by fostering trust and understanding.
Beyond her practice, Victoria advocates for oral health education and community outreach, striving to make quality dental care accessible to all. Her commitment to excellence and passion for oral health serve as an inspiration to those she encounters.
Practice Manager
Ruby started at the Specialist Periodontal and Implant Centre as a junior assistant at just 16, and her commitment and skills have seen her rise to Practice Manager. She’s a crucial part of the team, balancing complex surgeries, guiding staff, and keeping the clinic running smoothly day-to-day.
Ruby’s experience goes beyond the clinic too—she’s accompanied A/Prof. Mercado on oral health missions to the Philippines, bringing her dedication to oral health care to communities in need.
Ruby works closely with A/Prof Mercado, Dr Judd Sher and the entire team, providing training, support, and leadership that help create a positive environment for staff and patients alike. Her warmth and expertise make her the backbone of the practice, ensuring that every aspect, from staff support to patient care, is exceptional.
When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll find Ruby relaxing with her two Great Danes, her beloved “fur babies.”
Front Office Coordinator
Holly is the welcoming face of the Specialist Periodontal and Implant Centre, making every patient feel at ease from the moment they arrive. As the clinic’s Front Office Coordinator, Holly expertly manages front desk operations, from scheduling appointments to handling patient inquiries, with warmth and efficiency
Her approachable nature sets a positive tone for each visit, ensuring patients feel cared for right from the start.
Holly and Ruby, the Practice Manager, work so seamlessly together that they’re often mistaken for sisters. Their close collaboration and shared commitment create a friendly, family-like environment that both patients and staff appreciate. Holly’s dedication to top-tier service and her genuine care for each patient make her an invaluable part of the team.
When she’s not at work, you’ll find Holly cherishing time with her family after recently becoming a new mum.
Senior Nurse
Olivia is an essential part of the Specialist Periodontal and Implant Centre team, known for her skillful support and dedication to patient care. As a highly trained dental assistant, she works closely with Dr. Judd Sher and Prof. Mercado, ensuring that every procedure runs smoothly.
Olivia’s warm demeanor helps patients feel at ease, while her attention to detail ensures the highest level of care during treatments.
With a strong passion for dentistry, Olivia is eager to advance her career and is planning to pursue a Bachelor of Dental Science in the near future. Her commitment to both personal and professional growth, along with her compassionate approach, makes her an indispensable member of the team.
When she’s not at work, you’ll find her either at the gym or spending time with her “furson,” Max.
Dental Assistant
Ron is a vital member of the Specialist Periodontal and Implant Centre team, working closely with Victoria, our Oral Health Therapist. Ron ensures that each appointment runs smoothly and efficiently.
His hands-on support in various procedures allows Victoria to focus on delivering exceptional care, while his friendly demeanor helps patients feel relaxed and comfortable.
Dedicated to professional growth, Ron is always eager to learn new techniques and improve his skills, making him an invaluable asset to the practice. When he’s not assisting in the clinic, Ron enjoys exploring new hobbies and spending time with friends
